Horizon Therapeutics is reaching for the sky as it becomes as the highest ranked pharma on Fortune’s annual Best Companies To Work For list for the second year in a row.
Horizon, which markets eye drug Tepezza, was listed 69th out of the 100 companies. Horizon is no stranger to the list, having been on it for the past three years. The company was the highest ranked pharma on the list last year, too.
One Horizon employee speaking to Fortune said: “From the moment I joined Horizon as an entry-level employee, I was given opportunities to bring new ideas to the table and share them with executive leadership.
“I was able to voice my opinion on decisions that would impact the business at a larger level which has allowed me to grow personally and professionally early in my career.”
AbbVie, also no stranger to Fortune’s rankings, was the second highest ranked pharma this year, coming in at 79th overall. One AbbVie employee told Fortune the company is one “that recognizes that our people are our success and invest in our culture and talent development accordingly.”
AbbVie was followed by cystic fibrosis drug maker Vertex Pharmaceuticals, which secured the 84th spot. One Vertex employee told Fortune their cross-functional position at the company has given them the opportunity to meet many co-workers. "Each person I meet has been generous with their time, always willing to answer my questions or help me break down a problem," the employee said.
Merck & Co. squeaked into the top 100, coming in 98th place. An employee said they respected the fact that “great value is placed on mental health and paid time off,” which shows that Merck sees that “we are people, not just employees, with lives outside of work and honors that and promotes balancing work/home life.”
Digital communications tech company Cisco topped Fortune’s list this year, with hotel chain Hilton and financial services company American Express rounding out the top three.
