Watson Launches Generic Keppra XR®

MORRISTOWN, N.J., Sept. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE: WPI) today confirmed that its subsidiary, Watson Laboratories, Inc. has launched Levetiracetam Extended-Release 500 mg and 750 mg tablets, the generic version of UCB, Inc.'s Keppra XR® following approval of its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  Watson has begun shipping the product today.  Keppra XR® is indicated to treat partial onset seizures in people 16 years of age and older with epilepsy.

For the twelve months ending July 31, 2011, Keppra® had total U.S. sales of approximately $163 million according to IMS Health data.
