Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Partners with Doctors in Training to Enhance Online USMLE STEP 1 Review Course

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), part of Wolters Kluwer Health, has announced plans to offer the newest edition of its USMLE training guide as part of Doctors in Training's popular online review course for medical students preparing for the USMLE Step 1 exam.

Doctors in Training staff physicians are actively involved in the editing of LWW's forthcoming 5th edition of Step Up to USMLE Step 1.  In addition, Doctors in Training has licensed numerous images and content to include in its Step 1 video review course.  The revised textbook and Doctors in Training's 2013 Step 1 review course will be available to medical schools and students for the spring 2013 test prep season.

"By partnering with a leading medical publisher, we can take our USMLE Step 1 review course in an exciting new direction that will help students excel in the classroom, on board exams, during clerkships, internship and residency, and beyond," said  Brian Jenkins, MD, Founder and President of Doctors in Training. "LWW is in touch with the needs of medical students and is a quality provider of medical education resources.  This new relationship will be good not only for both companies but for all of medical education."

Doctors in Training's USMLE Step 1 review course includes approximately 75 hours of focused high-yield videos that incorporate active learning principles.  Prior to viewing the video portion of the course, Doctors in Training students are also provided with a series of over 500 review questions that are incrementally delivered to the students each week along with concise video answers prepared by Doctors in Training physicians.

"Like LWW, Doctors in Training recognizes that medical students want choices and are seeking review tools that fit their learning style," said Michael Tully, Publisher for Medical Education at LWW.  "We are pleased to offer students yet another valuable tool that helps them build a review plan that best supports their learning needs.  Together our content and their course will be a real benefit to students at this critical time in their medical school career."

Step Up to USMLE Step 1 is a comprehensive review text for the USMLE Step 1 exam. The book has been widely acclaimed for its high-yield, systems-based organization, which parallels the USMLE Step 1 content outline and helps students synthesize information from their basic science courses. The user-friendly format features charts, diagrams, and "quick hits" margin notes that help students integrate concepts across systems. The new edition will include clinical vignettes in each chapter, integrated pharmacology content, a "Crunch Time Review," and a chapter with study tips and strategies.  A companion Website offers fully searchable online text, a sample question bank, and more.
