Pfizer poaches Verily's Panayiotou for new chief marketing role

Andreas "Drew" Panayiotou joins Pfizer in the pharma’s inaugural biopharma global chief marketing officer role. In this capacity, Panayiotou will initiate building commercial infrastructure and add new innovative engagement channels, tools and digital solutions.

He will report to Angela Hwang, group president of Pfizer's biopharmaceuticals group, starting Sept. 19.

“We’re passionate about getting our breakthroughs to patients and Drew’s insights and diverse thinking will help us elevate the cutting-edge customer channels, skills and capabilities we need to deliver against our purpose—breakthroughs that change patients’ lives,” Hwang wrote in a LinkedIn post.

Prior to this appointment, Panayiotou was chief marketing officer at Verily, a role he also initiated. There, he shaped the company’s precision health area and built digital marketing platforms for patient recruitment and enrollment. He also established a product marketing function across areas such as clinical research, care and devices.

His nearly 30 years of global marketing experience spans not only pharma and healthcare, including Johnson & Johnson, but also The Coca-Cola Company, Chick-fil-A, Best Buy, The Walt Disney Company and advertising agency BBDO.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work on some of the most iconic brands in the world, and I am humbled and excited to join this team and work on this one. It is one of the most iconic in the world and has a mission to drive breakthroughs that improve the lives of all the people we love in our lives! I can’t imagine anything more exciting,” Panayiotou wrote in a Linkedin post.
