Eli Lilly has jumped up a ranking of the corporate reputations of diabetes drugmakers, putting it hot on the heels of Novo.
PatientView compiled the ranking by gathering the views of 71 diabetes patient groups in 30 countries. Asked to rank companies they work with, the patient groups put Novo in first place, followed by Lilly and Sanofi. Lilly and Sanofi swapped places in the ranking of companies that the diabetes groups are familiar with. Novo came top of both league tables.
The Danish drugmaker is a familiar sight at the top of the rankings, having placed (PDF) first on both league tables last year. Lilly is a new arrival. Riding high on its GLP-1 medicines, Lilly climbed four places up the table of companies that groups work with. Lilly rose three places on the “familiar with” rankings.
While Lilly has long been a force in the diabetes market, awareness of its brand has increased in recent years as the GLP-1/GIP receptor agonists Mounjaro and Zepbound have become household names and the company has embarked on corporate marketing campaigns. Against that backdrop, the company was the fastest riser up both of the PatientView diabetes league tables.
The company climbed the diabetes rankings in a period when patient groups’ views of U.S. drugmakers in general soured. PatientView’s survey of patient groups across all therapeutic areas found volatility in reputations of drugmakers with large U.S. footprints. The recent volatility reflected political pressures and workforce reductions, PatientView said.
Lilly’s ascent coincided with a slight uptick in overall perceptions of diabetes drugmakers. PatientView tracked improvements in diabetes groups’ views of the industry’s provision of patient information and approach to patient centricity.
However, perceptions of the industry’s activities in multiple areas fell over the same period. Innovation, transparency of clinical data and pricing, access to medicines, pharma integrity and fair pricing policies were among the areas where perceptions deteriorated.
