BeOne Medicines has extended its relationship with Blood Cancer United, committing $5 million over three years to support the nonprofit’s efforts to increase access to information and services.
The organizations have worked together for years, although they have both changed their names over that time. BeOne, then called BeiGene, was already involved with the nonprofit when it became the top sponsor for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Light The Night” events in 2024. The society changed its name to Blood Cancer United the next year. BeOne sells the lymphoma drug Brukinsa.
Having provided $3.2 million since 2022, BeOne is stepping up its support for the nonprofit over the next three years. Blood Cancer United will use the money to expand patient education, support and access.
Activities supported by the investment include educational webcasts for people with blood cancers, a service to help patients access clinical trials, and events that provide education about treatment options. Other BeOne-backed initiatives include advocacy efforts and the expansion of a platform that connects patients to support.
The expanded agreement extends BeOne’s time as the “national presenting sponsor of survivorship and hope” through 2030. The sponsorship covers the “Light The Night” events that Blood Cancer United holds across the U.S. to raise money for blood cancer research and patient resources and support.
BeOne is part of a small band of drugmakers in Blood Cancer United’s top, $1-million-and-above tier of corporate partners. Genentech and Biogen jointly occupy one space in the “President's Circle,” with AbbVie, Gilead’s Kite and Royalty Pharma taking up another three slots. Companies including Eli Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, Novartis and Pfizer are in the second tier of corporate partners.
The sponsorship tables are a who’s who of companies competing for blood cancer markets. BeOne is one of the winners of recent scraps for market share, driving (PDF) Brukinsa sales up 38% to $1.1 billion in the first quarter. The biotech is working to build a franchise around the product. Key pipeline programs include the BCL2 inhibitor sonrotoclax and the BGB-16673 BTK degrader.
