Asymchem completes construction at new Chinese production sites

Chinese CDMO Asymchem Labs completed construction of new production buildings at its Dunhua and Tianjin manufacturing sites in China.

The Dunhua project added about 500 cubic meters of batch capacity, while the Tianjin API expansion will bump batch capacity there by 160 cubic meters, the company said. The company didn't say how much the expansion cost.

The growth has been spurred by increased commercialization demand, the company said. Asymchem plans to double its overall existing small-molecule batch capacity to 1,700 cubic meters by the end of the year.

Asymchem also said it expects to expand continuous flow technology at all of its sites while upgrading several existing modules and buildings.

In February, Asymchem shelled out $57.9 million to acquire Snapdragon Chemistry, a U.S.-based company focused on continuous manufacturing and early-stage chemical process development services. The deal was part of the CDMO’s plans to expand its footprint in the U.S.

Snapdragon, which was formed in 2014 as a spinoff from MIT and Boston University, unveiled a 51,000-square-foot plant expansion in 2021.
