Drugmakers more concerned with quality than price in picking CMOs

Drugmakers turning to contractors for products are concerned about the price they will have to pay, but that is not at the top of the list. Instead, they are most concerned with whether a contract manufacturer follows certified good manufacturing practices, according to a survey of attendees at the Global Pharmaceutical Contract Manufacturing conference in London recently. According to Outsourcing-Pharma.com, 80% of those answering put quality standards first, while cost landed third on the survey, with only about 45% ranking it most important. Regulators are stressing quality to avoid plant problems and recalls that can lead to drug shortages. Story | More
