Clongen Laboratories, LLC introduces a new Veterinary Diagnostic services Division

GAITHERSBURG, Md., March 4, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Clongen Laboratories, LLC

We are pleased to announce the addition of a veterinary diagnostic services division at Clongen Laboratories.

Dr. Erica Fratz has spent several months developing the veterinary testing menu, which offers over 100 new assays to identify diseases in animals. "As the human population continues to grow, so do the interactions among humans, domesticated animals, and wild animals. Wild animal populations are the primary reservoir for emerging diseases, and as we, and our domesticated animals, occupy more of this planet, we introduce new relationships among wild animals, domestic animals, and people," commented Dr. Fratz, a Senior Scientist. "Offering veterinary testing has been in the plans for Clongen for several years, and now we are making it happen," Dr. Kilani, President and Laboratory Director stated.

The test menu includes pathogens that commonly infect dogs, cats, and other household pets, as well as those that affect livestock and primate populations. The American Pet Products Association (APPA) estimates that 37-47% of all households in the United States have a dog, and 30-37% of all households have a cat. Domestic livestock are also indispensable for the human population as a source of meat, dairy products, and eggs. Maintaining livestock in good health becomes imperative to serve the growing needs of humans all over the world. Moreover, it is estimated that approximately 60% of human diseases are of zoonotic origin.

Other tests will be useful for detection of disease in laboratory animals, the importance of which cannot be underestimated. Animal models are crucial to the advancement of medicine, and their widespread use in medical research presents an urgent need to maintain research animals in good health at all times.

"The introduction of animal health diagnostic testing is in line with the company's direction that has remained unchanged since the company's inception in 1999," Dr. Kilani stated. "Our company continues to work tirelessly on improving human and animal health through the utilization of cutting edge diagnostic methods."
