Michigan consumers fight drug-suit ban
One state in the union has not one beneficiary of the Vioxx settlement. But it's not for lack of would-be plaintiffs. Michigan law prohibits patients from suing drug companies, and in the wake of the much-publicized Vioxx deal, consumer groups are fighting to have that law overturned.
A coalition of protesters has launched an online petition drive, asking state lawmakers to take action on a group of bills that would repeal the drug-suit prohibition. Will it happen? A State Senate spokesman seemed doubtful; he said senators have been too busy dealing with budget and taxes.
