Sales viewed in isolation do not mean much in the Pharma world.
One Indian company stands out in the generic space -- That is Sun Pharmaceuticals. Sanghvi knows the business inside out and is as shrewd a manager as there is.
One Indian company stands out in the R&D space -- and that is Glenmark which is not even part of the top 10 list. Glen knows how to approach R&D better than any of the entrepreneurs in this space -- and certainly better than the Malvinder's of the world.
Malvinder made a good move to sell out -- he is not a pharma man, only an inheritor of the mantel, and not a worthy one at that. If he knew the business and could build it, he would not have sold out. Parminder would hang his head in shame if he knew what his son had done. One of India's jewels is gone.
