Judge dismisses Lousiana's Rezulin suit

Hear that sigh of relief from Pfizer? A New York judge tossed out a lawsuit pitting the State of Louisiana against Pfizer over the diabetes drug Rezulin, which was pulled from the market in 2000 because of liver toxicity problems.

Louisiana was trying to recover Medicaid payments for the drug and the costs of treating illnesses Rezulin caused. And it's only one of many lawsuits filed in the wake of the drug's withdrawal. Pfizer acquired the lawsuits in its buyout of Warner-Lambert; it settled many of the personal injury claims in 2003.
