Ireland trumpets Pfizer biotech facility

Tools

Pfizer is keeping mum about a biologics facility it's preparing to build in Ireland, but no one else appears to be. Jacobs Engineering, which Pfizer tapped to perform pre-construction services at the site, trumpeted its selection in a press release. And the Irish newspapers, encouraged by the prospect of 100 new high-tech jobs, are all over the story.

"Cork County Council recently granted planning permission for the facility,": writes the Irish Examiner, "and if the plan is approved by Pfizer construction should begin immediately, with the facility expected to be completed by early 2009."

The drug maker says that the proposed biologics facility still hasn't received final, internal approval, and that hiring Jacobs was only a necessary step in its decision-making process. A final determination is expected in October.
