Humana to study adverse reactions

Tools

In an unprecedented initiative, the University of Miami and Humana are joining forces to study drug safety and adverse reactions. Researchers will track Humana's database of 11 million members, looking for dangerous side effects that become apparent only after a drug has been used for some time. Dubbed the Pharmacovigilance Initiative, the program is an attempt to reach beyond voluntary reporting of adverse drug reactions. Results will be reported publicly via press releases and a special website beginning in 2008.
