Mesothelioma Litigation Attorney, Christopher Placitella to Lead Expert Panel on Mass Tort Litigation in New Jersey

RED BANK, N.J., March 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education has announced their 'Evolving World of Handling Mass Tort Claims' conference, to be held June 2, 2011. This mass tort litigation event will feature state and local experts in the field of mass tort litigation led by attorneys Christopher Placitella, partner at the law firm of Cohen, Placitella & Roth and Steven A. Karg, attorney at the law firm of Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, PA. There will also be presentations by Hon. Carole E. Higbee, P.J. Cv., Hon. Brian R. Martinotti, JSC., Hon. Jessica R. Mayer JSC. For the public there is a $199 tuition charge which includes dinner and seminar materials. The event is free and open to law students and full time judges.

Currently, NJ recognizes several mass torts that are handled by the Special Mass Tort Section. Those 16 mass torts include Accutane, Asbestos, Bextra/Celebrex, Bristol-Meyers-Squib, Ciba Geigy, Digitek, Fosamax, Gadolinium, HRT, Levaquin, Mahwah Toxic Dump Site, NuvaRing, Ortho Evra, Risperdal/Seroquel/Zyprexa, Vioxx, and Zometa/Aredia. In addition there are 6 centrally managed cases, Pelvic Mesh; Reglan; Stryker Implant; Pompton Lakes; Prudentional Tort; and Zelnorm. Four Superior Court Judges have been assigned by the Chief Justice to exclusively manage these cases.  

Christopher Placitella, widely regarded as one of the country's leading legal authorities on mass torts, mesothelioma litigation, asbestos related diseases, and toxic torts, will open the conference as well as present "Developments in Asbestos Litigation," an expert seminar on learning what it takes to represent a mesothelioma and asbestos litigation case, and take it to trial.

This program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 3.7 hours of total CLE credit. Of these, 3.7 qualify as hours of credit toward certification in civil trial law.
