Latifah Hospital and Bayer HealthCare Organize Endometriosis Awareness Campaign

Over 100,000 Women in UAE suffer from Endometriosis Disease

Dubai, 10 March 2013 - Given the global increase for the awareness around Endometriosis disease, and the seriousness of the impact that it has on the lives of many women during the prime of their life, Latifah Hospital and Bayer HealthCare are organizing an Endometriosis Awareness Day on Thursday 13 March 2014, at Latifah Hospital in Dubai. The event comes as part of a global awareness campaign "No More Pain" that is taking place during the whole of March this year.
Endometriosis is a chronic disease that affects one in every 10 women around the world where tissue that resembles the lining of the womb (uterus) is found elsewhere in the body. The pain caused by endometriosis is both physically and mentally exhausting and can have a huge impact on all aspects of a woman's life, affecting her work life and personal relationships. The pain also interferes with a woman's education, career and productivity at work.

With over 100,000 women in the UAE suffering from Endometriosis, this event will help raise awareness and educate more women in the country on the disease, its impact and the different treatment options.

Doctor Ghassan Lotfy, Consultant Gynecologist at Latifah Hospital commented: "Endometriosis is a chronic disease where tissue that resembles the lining of the womb (uterus) is found elsewhere in the body. Once implanted outside the womb, the endometrial tissue reacts to changing levels of hormones in a woman's body during the course of her menstrual cycle, causing it to grow. This can cause inflammation and the formation of scar tissue, leading to pain."
Doctor Bassem Abdallah, Gulf Country Division Head, Bayer HealthCare commented: "We are always keen at Bayer HealthCare on enhancing women and families' health at large, and its from this aspect that our interest on generating maximum awareness on this disease, its impact and treatment options stem out. The company is committed to continuing its research and development options for treatments of diseases that affect women all over the world."

A questionnaire will be given out to women during the awareness campaign in Latifah Hospital to help them identify if they have any of the Endometriosis symptoms. In the case any of the participating women discover they may potentially have Endometriosis, they will be provided with the contact information and a free phone consultation with Endometriosis experts available in Latifah Hospital.
A march in solidarity with the international "Million Woman March" will also take place at Latifah Hospital and coincides with a march taking place across 53 different countries around the world starting from Washington D.C.
