AstraZeneca - Top 10 Layoffs of 2010

Company: AstraZeneca
Layoffs: 8,550

Scoop: AstraZeneca started off the new year with 8,000 job cuts announced, on top of the 15,000 from 2009. The company wasn't shy; it reduced staff in virtually every area of the company, from chain ops (2,240 jobs) to R&D (3,500 jobs) to sales, marketing and admin (4,450 jobs). And a month later, it cut another 550, shutting its doors in Wilmington, DE as well as U.K. and Swedish facilities.

AstraZeneca has been cost cutting since 2007, originally planning on eliminating 7,400 positions by 2013. Three years later, and the total is up to 23,550.
