A few years ago, the Bayer Group CEO said it was time to expand the company's animal health position. In 2012, it made a small move in that direction, picking up the animal health business of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries ($TEVA) for $145 million. Since then there have been rumors that it might make an offer for Zoetis ($ZTS), or that it might trade its animal health operations to Merck in its deal to buy Merck's consumer health business. Neither rumor panned out. -- Eric Palmer (email | Twitter)
