The deputy head of China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) has been arrested for corruption, putting an agency that was at the center of the GlaxoSmithKline ($GSK) bribery probe into its own spotlight.
Sun Hongzhi, a former vice minister at SAIC, has been stripped of his Communist Party credentials and will be prosecuted for bribery and embezzlement, according to the Daily Telegraph, which cited an official website.
The Chinese-language versions on Tuesday, however, did not display the notice on the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection website.
The Daily Telegraph said that Sun was accused of adultery, serious violations of party discipline and taking bribes and other gifts as well as embezzling public funds.
China's leadership under President Xi Jinping launched an anticorruption push in early 2014 that has led to the arrest of several high-profile figures, including Zhou Yongkang, the party's former security chief. He was sentenced to life in prison on Friday on corruption charges.
