Aetna Pharmacy Management Receives URAC Accreditation for Pharmacy Benefit Management

HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aetna (NYSE: AET) Pharmacy Management today announced that it has been awarded full pharmacy benefit management (PBM) accreditation from URAC, an independent health care accrediting organization that evaluates and monitors PBM’s for quality, safety and effectiveness. Aetna Pharmacy Management had previously received accreditation from URAC in 2007.

“We are extremely proud to achieve full accreditation from URAC,” said Laurie Brubaker, head of Aetna Pharmacy Management. “Achieving this accreditation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing high quality pharmacy benefits and exceptional customer service.”

“By applying for and receiving URAC accreditation, Aetna Pharmacy Management has demonstrated a commitment to quality health care,” said Alan P. Spielman, URAC president and CEO. “Quality health care is crucial to our nation’s welfare and it is important to have organizations that are willing to measure themselves against national standards and undergo rigorous evaluation by an independent accrediting body.”

The URAC accreditation program provides comprehensive, third-party assurance for employers and consumers that quality standards are met for consumer protection and empowerment, appropriate access to drugs and pharmacies, patient safety, and disclosure of pricing and contracting terms. The URAC PBM accreditation certifies that Aetna Pharmacy Management adheres to national standards for the design and operation of important programs that help consumers safely and effectively take medications.
