PLAINSBORO, N.J., Oct. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Novo Nordisk, a world leader in diabetes care, announced a new partnership with online sensation Michael Stevens, host and creator of the popular YouTube channel Vsauce, to launch a new 6-part video series, "Breaking Down Diabetes." Stevens, well known for his entertaining approach to explaining the science behind seemingly ordinary, everyday phenomena, will apply this approach to explain the science behind diabetes.

The "Breaking Down Diabetes" 6-part video series captures Stevens' engaging and energetic personality to break down this complex disease; topics include:

What Is Diabetes?
Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes
Diabetes by the Numbers
Blood Sugar and the Body
Diabetes Medicines
Diabetes Management
"I love exploring complex topics and explaining what seems to be inexplicable," said Stevens. "After learning that the science behind diabetes is so difficult to understand, I wanted to help 'break it down' for people. I hope that these videos will resonate with those living with diabetes and motivate them to take action."

The "Breaking Down Diabetes" video series is hosted on a new YouTube channel called The Diabetes Download, brought to you by Cornerstones4Care®. In addition to the "Breaking Down Diabetes" series, The Diabetes Download channel hosts another 13 educational video segments as a part of the lifestyle series titled "Living with Diabetes." These videos and diabetes care resources for patients and caregivers discuss topics such as healthy cooking, dining out, festive eating, food shopping, physical activity, and emotional well-being. Most of these videos are available in English and Spanish.

"We're very excited to work with Michael and other experts to bring diabetes education to a platform where so many consumers are seeking information," said Christine Sakdalan, vice president, Patient Centric Strategy and Solutions, Novo Nordisk. "Through The Diabetes Download, we're breaking down the misconceptions of diabetes to empower more people to take control of their health and better manage their condition."

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics, of the more than 29 million people who have diabetes in the United States, only 21 million are actually diagnosed.[1] This means that nearly one-third of Americans with diabetes don't know they have it,[1] underscoring the importance of educating the public on this disease.
