It's a new world: Gen Y is living, dreaming, and shaping it

Start Something with Alesse contest launches today, supporting this visionary generation

TORONTO, Sept. 10, 2014 /CNW/ - Generation Y, millennials, the "Me" Generation: however you describe them, they are the emerging young adults of today. Despite facing debt, a lagging economy, and a job crisis, Gen Ys are passionate and innovative – and are motivated by different things than the generations before them.1

Many young Canadians are looking beyond traditional desk jobs and striving for meaning,1 determined to find opportunities and organizations that align with who they are, and help them find their joy.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Start Something with Alesse contest, which aims to inspire the unique vision of young Canadians.

What:
Start Something with Alesse – a national contest that asks young Canadians to submit an idea for what they want to "start" and helps them bring their ideas to life. Winning projects (two) receive $5,000 each and mentorship to help get their ideas off the ground, and runners-up (eight) receive $500.

How:
There are two categories: For-profit and Non-profit. Five finalists will be chosen in each category (ten finalists in total); one winning project will be chosen in each category through online voting.

Who:
Canadians and Canadian residents aged 16 and over are eligible to enter.
