Trial-supply plants dominate facility awards

Clinical supply manufacturing facilities take two of the top spots in this year's Facility of the Year Award contest. Hoffman-LaRoche and Merck receive the honors for their Kaiseraugst, Switzerland, and Summit, NJ, plants.

The Hoffman-LaRoche award cites process innovation. The Swiss plant houses the company's "MyDose" clinical supply operation. For Merck the category is facility integration. The project involved expansion of a facility that houses clinical supplies manufacturing, packaging and warehousing. The contest is sponsored by ISPE, Interphex and Pharmaceutical Processing magazine.

Other winners--to be honored at the Interphex show in March--include MedImmune, for project execution at its Frederick, MD, facility and Novartis Vaccines, for equipment innovation at its plant in Marburg, Germany.

Rounding out the list: Pfizer Health, operational excellence, Pfizer Manufacturing Deutschland for sustainability, and Shire HGT, honorable mention.
