Catalent ups supply chain visibility with social media model

Contract manufacturer Catalent is following through on its plan to let customers view manufacturing and inventory data through an online service from TraceLink called Process Links.

The idea is to take data from the cloud in the same way that social media sites operate and make the data available to trading partners, reports Pharmaceutical Commerce magazine. The upshot is greater supply chain visibility.

Trading partner use of an application that has a common definition of data, business rules and collaboration tool can eliminate the "many-to-many, multi-enterprise issues," according to the article. The idea is not to supplant the applications at each company, but to put into a common application framework the processes that are already in place. TraceLink is intended as an alternative to proprietary communication portals and networks.
