Otsuka device unit works with UniCare on urinary bladder products

Otsuka Holdings said its Lilium Otsuka unit, Japan's science institute and UniCare signed an agreement to share research, development and marketing for urinary bladder products.

The all-Japan pact calls for Otsuka to develop the next generation of the devices that rely on technology developed and owned by UniCare and the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.

The technology is used in portable ultrasound sensors that measure urinary volume in the bladder on a continuous basis. The information is used to aid in efficient control of the best timing of urination in patients with those problems.

Financial aspects of the agreement were not revealed.
