The recalls for generic drugmaker Hi-Tech Pharmacal continue to pile up and this time it is bad news for another drugmaker. The unit of Akorn is recalling of hundreds of thousands of bottles of sterile ophthalmic solution, most of it produced for Allergan's Actavis.
Akorn and its Hi-Tech Pharmacal unit have had a number of recalls lately involving its liquid products, including more than 7,200 bottles of dental mouth rinse which the FDA says failed impurities testing.
When Akorn bought Hi-Tech Pharmacal a couple of years ago, CEO Raj Rai called the $640 million deal transformative. Most recently, what has transformed for Illinois-based Akorn is recalls tied to manufacturing issues at Hi-Tech.
Illinois-based specialty generics maker Akorn is recalling more than 355,000 bottles of its generic of Bactrim made by one of its recent acquisitions, a company it blamed for some of its financial woes.
