The U.S. is not the only country throwing drug counterfeiters into jail. The former executive director of Cascade Medical, the exclusive supplier for German OTC drug producer Heel, has been sentenced to four years in prison in the Ukraine, SecuringIndustry.com reports. The arrest came after the State Administration of Ukraine on Medical Products (SAUMP) found nearly 4 million packages of counterfeit and unlicensed products worth an estimated $37 million at Cascade Medical's facility. They also uncovered raw materials and equipment they said were used for making the fakes. The government has put a hold on nearly 70 Heel products, which are among the best-selling in the country. China sent 7 people to prison this year who were caught up in manufacturing tainted drug capsules, some of them for up to 11 years. The U.S. has been diligently pursuing people selling counterfeits or unapproved drugs, as well. It has notched a number of arrests and convictions, including that of one man who helped get counterfeit Avastin into the U.S. He, however, only received house arrest for a year. Story | More
