Turkish man sent to prison for smuggling fake Avastin into U.S.

A Turkish man who admitted to smuggling counterfeit cancer drugs to the U.S. labeled as gifts or documents has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison. Ozkan Semizoglu in July pleaded guilty to two charges. He worked for a Turkish drug wholesaler and helped it get vials of drugs, some of them labeled as Altuzan, the Turkish version of Roche's ($RHHBY) Avastin, into the U.S. The drugs were sold to a wholesaler and then to oncology practices in the U.S. Some of the drugs turned out to be counterfeit.
