EMA clears Novartis' Fluad in deaths in Italy

Novartis' ($NVS) Fluad influenza vaccine has been declared safe by another regulator, this time the European Medicines Agency, after being called into question following the deaths of patients in Italy who had been given the jab. According to Reuters, the EMA tested the vaccine after the Italian Medicines Agency last week recalled two lots following reports of deaths, mostly in people over 80. The Italian authority this week said initial tests found nothing wrong with the vaccine and the deaths were unrelated. Novartis is in the process of selling its flu vaccine business, including three plants, to Australian vaccinemaker CSL for $275 million. Story | More
