New Transdermal Release Liner Helps Overcome Challenges with Difficult Formulations

ST. PAUL, MN – Feb. 8, 2016 – As patient preference and compliance are becoming increasingly important, transdermal patches are a great alternative for those who struggle with swallowing pills or want a more comfortable alternative to injections. One of the critical considerations when creating a transdermal patch is selection of the appropriate components – and 3M Drug Delivery Systems is adding another option to help meet customer needs. Introducing 3MTM ScotchpakTM 9709 Release Liner – a fluorosilicone coated polyester film recommended for formulations that require resistance to interactions with amines in silicone adhesives. Such formulations include those containing: Buprenorphine, Fentanyl, Methylphenidate, Rivastigmine, and Rotigotine.

The release liner is coated on one side with a proprietary 3M fluorosilicone that provides premium release from most pressure sensitive adhesives, including silicone, acrylic and polyisobutylene (PIB). The transparent liner is also occlusive and provides excellent chemical stability with potential to extend shelf life.

3M Scotchpak 9709 release liner offers the lowest release within the 3M ScotchpakTM family of polyester release liners. Available in roll form, 3M Scotchpak 9709 release liner can be used in the fabrication of transdermal drug delivery systems.
