Tysabri may help heal MS patients' nerves
The Biogen Idec/Elan drug Tysabri may offer an important benefit that helps balance its risk of the potentially fatal brain infection primary multifocal leukoencephalopathy: A small new study suggests the drug promotes healing around the frayed nerves of multiple sclerosis patients. "What we have seen in these...data suggest that Tysabri may have the capacity to repair and possibly restore some of the damaged myelin sheath that protects nerve fibers," the study's lead author said in a Biogen statement.
