Corruption investigation into former head of China hospitals, clinical trials

The man who was responsible for hospitals and for clinical trials conducted in China before the government lowered the corruption boom has been arrested and is under investigation for bribery, prosecutors said.

Yu Wang headed the medical administration bureau within the National Health and Family Planning Commission before his retirement last year in the midst of the scandals alleging bribes, kickbacks and other favors by GlaxoSmithKline ($GSK) and others.

The Supreme People's Procuratorate announced the arrest and investigation, but did not provide any details about the bribery charges, according to Bloomberg.

Wang's responsibilities also included setting policies for medical institutions. His arrest reportedly took place in Sichuan Province. Bloomberg also reported recently that Wang was suspected of violating discipline meted out by the Communist Party.
