Eli Lilly settles Connecticut Zyprexa suit

Eli Lilly has settled yet another state lawsuit over the mismarketing of antipsychotic drug Zyprexa. The Indianapolis-based drugmaker has agreed to pay Connecticut $25 million for marketing Zyprexa for unapproved uses, including dementia and attention-deficit disorder. That off-labeling marketing, says Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, caused some patients to gain weight, develop diabetes and cardiovascular problems, among other side effects.

A total of 13 states filed claims against Lilly over its off-labeling marketing of Zyprexa. The company has already closed deals with Alaska and West Virginia. More settlements are expected to be announced soon as Lilly said in July that it would take a pretax charge of $102 million in Q3 for settling "several" state lawsuits and earlier this month the drugmaker said it had resolved claims with seven states, Bloomberg reports.
