GlaxoSmithKline says it's letting a Canadian drug company use two of its patented drugs in a combination HIV therapy for Rwanda. Apotex will make the combo--known as Apo-triAvir--using Glaxo's antiretrovirals lamivudine and zidovudine, plus Boehringer Ingelheim's nevirapine. The agreement was struck through Canada's Access to Medicines initiative, a three-year-old bit of legislation intended to help poor countries gain access to needed drugs, but until now has failed to do so.
